If you are reading this in November 2026, the date that decides your next chapter is already fixed. UPSC has put the NDA & NA Examination (I), 2027 on Sunday, 11 April 2027. That is roughly 22 weeks away. It sounds like plenty, until you remember that December goes in filling the form and January goes in board practicals.
This guide puts every official date in one place, tells you what is confirmed and what is still only expected, and gives you a week-by-week plan you can start on Monday. We have kept it honest: where UPSC has not said something yet, we say so.
NDA 1 2027 important dates (official)
These dates come from the UPSC Programme of Examinations 2027, published as on 20 May 2026 (UPSC calendar PDF).
| Event | NDA & NA (I) 2027 | NDA & NA (II) 2027 |
| Notification | 2 December 2026 | 12 May 2027 |
| Last date to apply | 22 December 2026 | 1 June 2027 |
| Exam date | 11 April 2027 (Sunday) | 19 September 2027 (Sunday) |
| Exam duration | 1 day | 1 day |
CDS (I) 2027 shares the same notification and exam dates as NDA (I) 2027. UPSC’s own note says these dates are “liable to alteration, if the circumstances so warrant”, so recheck upsc.gov.in on 2 December.
How much time do you really have?
Counting from 6 November 2026:
- 26 days until the notification (2 Dec 2026)
- 46 days until applications close (22 Dec 2026)
- 156 days, about 22 weeks, until the exam (11 Apr 2027)
Twenty-two weeks is enough to cover the syllabus, finish one full round of previous papers and still have a calm last month. It is not enough if you wait for the notification before starting.
Who can apply for NDA 1 2027?
The NDA 1 2027 notice is not out yet, so the rules below come from the latest official notice, NDA & NA (II) 2026, dated 20 May 2026 (UPSC notice PDF). These rules have stayed the same across recent notices, but confirm them on 2 December.
- Who: unmarried male and female candidates.
- Army wing: Class 12 pass (10+2 pattern) in any stream.
- Air Force and Navy wings, and the Naval Academy 10+2 Cadet Entry: Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- Still in Class 12? You can apply while appearing in Class 12.
- Date of birth: UPSC accepts the date in your Class 10 (Matriculation) certificate.
Age window – expected, not yet confirmed: NDA (I) 2026 accepted candidates born between 1 July 2007 and 1 July 2010 (NDA I 2026 notice), and NDA (II) 2026 accepted those born between 1 January 2008 and 1 January 2011. If UPSC follows the same six-month step, NDA (I) 2027 should accept candidates born between 1 July 2008 and 1 July 2011. Treat this as our expectation until the notice confirms it. You can check your own case with our NDA age calculator, and read about category rules in NDA category-wise age relaxation.
NDA exam pattern and marking
As per the NDA (II) 2026 notice, the written exam has two objective papers, set in both Hindi and English:
| Paper | Duration | Marks |
| Mathematics | 2½ hours | 300 |
| General Ability Test (English + GK) | 2½ hours | 600 |
| Written total | | 900 |
| SSB Test/Interview | | 900 |
Every wrong answer costs one-third (0.33) of that question’s marks, and marking two options counts as wrong. That one rule changes how you should practise. Our guide on avoiding negative marking in NDA explains how to decide when to skip.
How many seats?
Both NDA notices of 2026 listed 394 approximate vacancies (370 for men and 24 for women) across the Army, Navy and Air Force wings and the Naval Academy. The NDA (I) 2027 numbers will only be known when the notice comes out on 2 December, so please do not plan around a figure until then.
Before you fill the form: three things that catch students out
- No corrections after you submit. Both 2026 notices state that UPSC will not allow any correction to any field after submission and after the window closes. Check your name, date of birth and wing choices twice, slowly, before you press submit.
- Fee and exemptions. The fee in the 2026 notices was Rs. 100. SC/ST candidates, female candidates and wards of JCOs/NCOs/ORs (as defined in the notice) were exempt.
- Registration first. UPSC’s portal (upsconline.nic.in) uses a one-time registration number (URN) and a common application form. You can finish those parts now, so that only the exam-specific form is left in December. Keep a photo ID and your Class 10 certificate ready.
Your 22-week plan, from now to 11 April
This is the plan we would give a younger brother or sister. It assumes about 6 hours of study a day on top of school.
Weeks 1–4 (9 Nov – 6 Dec): build the base, register
- Finish the URN registration on upsconline.nic.in this month.
- Mathematics: algebra, trigonometry and basics of calculus first. Keep our NDA maths formula sheet on your desk.
- English: 30 minutes of reading and 20 new words every day.
- Start running: 2 km a day is enough to begin.
Weeks 5–12 (7 Dec – 31 Jan): cover the full syllabus
- Apply between 2 and 22 December, early rather than on the last day.
- Complete every maths chapter once. Our guide to scoring 150+ in NDA maths shows which chapters carry the most marks.
- GAT: physics, chemistry, history, geography and polity. Follow our NDA GK preparation plan.
Weeks 13–18 (1 Feb – 14 Mar): papers and mocks
- Solve UPSC’s own previous NDA papers, which are free on upsc.gov.in, under exam conditions.
- One full mock every week, and mark every mistake in a notebook.
Weeks 19–22 (15 Mar – 11 Apr): revise, rest, repeat
- No new topics. Only revision, formula sheets and your mistake notebook.
- Our last 15-day revision strategy works just as well for the April paper.
- Sleep at the same time every night in the last week. The paper starts early.
If you prefer a shorter, stricter version, our 90-day NDA study plan picks up from January.
What to do this week
- Write 11 April 2027 somewhere you will see every morning.
- Create your UPSC URN and keep the login safe.
- Check that the name and date of birth on your Class 10 certificate match your Aadhaar or other photo ID.
- Take one full previous NDA maths paper, untimed, just to see where you stand. Do not be scared by the score; it is only a starting point.
